The other night at 11pm I picked up an older woman named Fern from the San Jose Airport. She lives in a 4plex across the street from eBay. As we got near her place Fern began to look through her purse.
A light rain began to fall and I could hear Fern fretting about not being able to find her apartment key. Oh great! By the time we pulled into her driveway still no keys. I opened the back of the cab and we looked unsuccessfully through all her luggage.
So there we were, standing in the rain. I asked if she had the managers phone number. She did. It was safely locked up in her apartment. Fern did not have a credit card with her or a check. Both you know where. So calling a locksmith did not seem like an idea.
Would I have to bring Fern home with me and bunk her on the sofa? Just then a light came on in her neighbors kitchen. The young man that lived there called the manager and told me he would watch over Fern. I could go. I made it home by 12:30am.
The next day I received a call from Fern. Wouldn't you know it those keys were hiding in her purse after all!
I got my first computer early in the Summer of 2004, and began blogging almost immediately. Thanks to blogging I have been a part of several newspapers and online blogs. By that August I was featured in the lead story of the Tech Section in the San José Mercury News. Then what a pleasant surprise it was to find that my blog, "Taxi Vignettes" was the reason I was chosen as the best local blogger of the year (2006) by the Metro Newspaper. Fall of '06, I was contacted by a reporter, asking if I would be willing to be the topic of her next story in The Willow Glen Resident. It was a cool two pages including photos. Am I having fun yet?
